Why Audio Books Make Work Better by Little Read Riding Hood

Why Audio Books Have Made Me Hate My Job Less

You don’t need to know what I do in the “real world” to sympathize with me here – most days I hate my job and I’d rather be reading. Come on now, having to interact with PEOPLE in real life on a daily basis for most of us has to be one of the circles of hell. Probably right between the lava monsters and the never ending lines that go nowhere.

But there is one thing that probably makes my job a bit different from yours, and that is my commute. See, I am a District Manager so I have to travel to several different locations in a given week. The furthest I drive, one way, is about 2 hours. The closest, again one way, is about 30 minutes. So the minimum amount of time I spend in the car is an hour a day.

It didn’t take me long to discover that is a minimum of an extra hour a day I can be reading – via audio books! It has allowed me to play catch up on all those series that, as a blogger who adores Urban Fantasy, I SHOULD have already read. For example I am nearly caught up with the Gin Blanco books by Jennifer Estep and the Chicagoland Vampires by Chloe Neill (both excellent on audio). As well as the Black Dagger Brotherhood books by JR Ward (only OK on audio IMO). It also frees me up to try books I probably wouldn’t sit down and read, such as The Program by Suzanne Young (which is amazing) and many other YA books, which seem to always be great but kept getting pushed back on my TBR list for some reason or another, like Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor (OMG IF YOU HAVEN’T DONE THIS ON AUDIO STOP READING THIS POST AND GET IT NOW), Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi (Seriously, why are you still reading my words when you can be listening to this?), and Cinder by Marissa Meyer (I think I have given up on you at this point if you are still reading this …).

The point is, audio books actually make me look forward to getting in my car in the mornings. They have made the drive to deal with whatever drama is heading my way that day a little more bearable. And they have made me hate my job just a little bit less.

About Laura

My name is Laura and I am an avid reader of all things paranormal. You name it, I’ve read something in that genre. I love discovering previously unheard of authors and have become friends with several of my favorites! That, and meeting other bloggy friends, is my favorite thing about blogging.

I live in Central Florida with my husband, 2 dogs, and a cat. I work with dogs, so you could say my two favorite things are, well, books and dogs! Fortunately my other half supports both of these hobbies. :-)
