While Merit didn’t choose to become a vampire or Sentinel of Cadogan House, she vowed to fight for her House and its Master, and she’s managed to forge strong alliances with powerful supernaturals across Chicago. But even though Merit has had wild adventures, this may be her deadliest yet...

A killer is stalking Chicago, preying on humans and leaving his victims with magical souvenirs. The CPD hasn’t been able to track the assailant, and as the body count rises, the city is running out of options. Vampires and humans aren’t on great terms, but murder makes for strange bedfellows. Can Merit find the killer before she becomes a target?

I had a dual experience with BLOOD GAMES. I recently had LASIK (laser eye surgery) and I couldn’t read for a few days but I really wanted to dig into BLOOD GAMES. I’ve never listen to the series on audio but when I saw that Tantor.com was having a 50% off sale I grabbed the audio copy of BLOOD GAMES for the low price of $9. I figured if I didn’t care for the narrator I could always switch to my print copy that the publisher sent me. And that’s what I did.

I started out listening to BLOOD GAMES and for the most part the narration wasn’t bad but I didn’t care for Sophie Eastlake (Narrator) male voices. They all sounded like 70-year-old men. Which was great for Merit’s granddad but not very sexy for the other guys like Ethan and Jonah. But since I need to rest my eyes I made do with it for about half the book then I braved using my “new” eyes and finished up reading BLOOD GAMES.

As far as the plot for BLOOD GAMES, I really enjoyed the mystery element that we can with each installment. Merit and the Scooby Gang always has a mystery to solve. This time they are trying to figure out who the wack-a-do serial killer attacking the streets of Chicago. Then there’s the whole GP thing to deal with. Merit has her handful as always trying to save the people/vamps of Chicago while trying to help Ethan with the political mess of the GP.

Some of the earlier fun in the series is coming back with Merit and Mallory reconnecting over one of their favorite things…. FOOD. Yes Chloe Neill loves to taunt use with all the famous sounding food in Chicago. I want to visit there one day just to try the food! There’s a fun scene between Merit and Mallory where Mal takes Merit to a restaurant called Layers they was basically their idea. LOL Seriously a buffet style restaurant that asks if you want a fork, spoon or spork.

I love Ethan and Merit as a working couple and as Master and Sentinel of Cadogan House. But as far as their being a couple I’m kind of over it. The back and forth SHOULD be over by this point in their relationship and yet we are still getting some of it from Ethan. It was not as big of a deal in BLOOD GAMES as previous books but it was there and it bugged me. I don’t see how a centuries old vampire can be so emotional stunted that his 20 something newbie of a vamp is more mature in this area.

Ever since the DRINK DEEP I pretty much read the series now for the plot, action and mystery. I’m over the romance between Merit and Ethan. I really would have been ok with Merit and Jonah getting together after HARD BITTEN.

I LOVED that Merit has grown with the series. She really showed her personal growth in BLOOD GAMES. She didn’t let Ethan’s issues throw her off her game. She stuck by her man (even if I wish her man was someone else).

BLOOD GAMES is not to be missed by Chicagoland fans, Chloe Neill continues to bring her A game when it comes to action and humor. Vampires of Chicago can sleep well knowing that Merit is there to keep them safe.
