Twelve. Twelve of the deadliest beasts ever forged in the fires of hell have escaped onto our plane, and they want nothing more than to rip out the jugular of Charley Davidson and serve her lifeless, mangled body to Satan for dinner. So there's that. But Charley has more on her plate than a mob of testy hellhounds. For one thing, her father has disappeared, and the more she retraces his last steps, the more she learns he was conducting an investigation of his own, one that has Charley questioning everything she's ever known about him. Add to that an ex-BFF who is haunting her night and day, a rash of suicides that has authorities baffled, and a drop-dead sexy fiancé who has attracted the attentions of a local celebrity, and Charley is not having the best week of her life.

But all of that combined barely scratches the surface of her problems. Recent developments - and a few distressing prophesies - have forced her to become a responsible adult. Exactly the kind of adult she's never aspired to be. To conquer such a monumental task, she's decided to start small. Really small. She gets a pet. But how can she save the world against the forces of evil when she can't even keep a goldfish alive? A tad north of hell, a hop, skip, and a jump past the realm of eternity, is a little place called Earth, and Charley Davidson, grim reaper extraordinaire, is determined to do everything in her power to protect it. We're doomed.

SEVENTH GRAVE AND NO BODY is full of the signature snark and humor readers have come to love from Charley and the gang.

If you thing you’ve seen Charley battle “big bads” before, you haven’t seen anything until you see her battle caffeine withdrawal. LOL If you’re up to date on the series you can figure out why she’s giving up the good stuff for the evil decaffeinated brew.

While I love the snark and humor of the series I really wish the naming everything would stop. It gets a little confusing when there are names being thrown around and I’m wondering, who is this new character to only realize Charley is talking about another body part or piece of furniture.

Where Charley has not matured much as an adult, she’s growing in her powers and can only become more powerful as the series continues. After the events at the end of SEVENTH GRAVE I can see where Charley will have to start growing up a little and set some of the snark and humor aside and get a little darker. We might me seeing a new Charley before too long and I can’t wait to see if Jones decides to gritty Charley up a bit.

Whereas Jones’ writing is entertaining, Lorelei King’s flawless performance is what keeps me coming back to Charley and gang over and over.  King delivers a fantastic performance every time! One thing the audio copy of SEVENTH GRAVE doesn’t have is the Reyes’ POV excerpt. You can only get that in the print copy so I was glad that I had my hands on a print copy as well. Reyes’s thoughts and feelings on Charley and her growing powers, was heartbreaking and I wish we got more from his POV. It shines a new light on Reyes; he’s just as insecure in his relationship with Charley as she is.

SEVENTH GRAVE AND NO BODY was another enjoyable addition to the Charley Davidson series with somewhat shocking end that had me saying bring on EIGHT GRAVE AFTER DARK!
